Blaseball is Taking a Grand Siesta to Prepare for What’s Next
The Discipline Era is over. Do you remember anything from before? Before you killed a god. Before the Crabs ascended. Before you raised the dead. Before the #snackrifice . Before the Microphone lifted. Before the Grand Unslam. Before Comfort Septemberish stole home. Before Peanut Fraud. Before you opened the Forbidden Book.
Blaseball may seem like it’s been here forever, but the game that’s captured your imagination is less than three months old. What began as a small side project for our studio is now an all-consuming endeavor.
We couldn’t be happier it turned out this way. Blaseball has a bright future ahead, and we’re excited to bring you new stories, features, and horrors. There’s only so much planning we can do while seasons are running, so we’re going to take several weeks off to get ready for what’s next. We’re setting up some new development practices that let us maintain the pace and improvisation of Blaseball while giving us some room to breathe.
And the same goes for you — we want Blaseball to respect your time and energy. You shouldn’t have to spend your every waking moment with Blaseball to get the full experience. We have said that it’s important to step back from Blaseball when you’re feeling overwhelmed; we’d like to encourage that, both through the game design and the release schedule. We’re treating Season 11 as an epilogue, an opportunity for us all to cool down and look ahead.
Change is coming. The Discipline Era was about building community against chaotic forces beyond your control. The themes we’ve introduced so far will always be part of the game, but Blaseball will expand upon them and explore new ideas in the future.
In the meantime, we need your help. We’ve said before that Blaseball isn’t yet profitable — we’re working around the clock on this project and need to expand the team asap. We really appreciate all of the support you’ve given to our Patreon so far, and would like to ask for it once more.
Today we’re introducing a new tier for $20 / month called Inside a Blaseball. IAB patrons can attend a monthly live Q&A session with the development team. Blaseball has always been about the dialogue between the community and the developers, and we’d like to expand on that conversation out of character. We’ll continue to host Q&A sessions while we’re on siesta.
Blaseball would never have been able to go this long without your support — thank you so much for continuing to put so much energy into this bizarre universe we’re creating together. It’s exceeded our wildest expectations, and we can’t wait to bring you more Blaseball action in the future.
