Hi Blaseball fans,

Thanks so much for participating in the cultural event of Blaseball with us. We thought it would be a good idea for us at The Game Band to speak a little more openly about our design process.

Decrees and blessings are planned weeks in advance, since it takes a substantial amount of time to implement and test each one. We work out future decrees and blessings based on a combination of our long-term plans and the effect previous ones had on the game. You usually see the results of that work several weeks after the conversation that initially inspired it.

We’re always discussing ways to upend and rethink our current systems, but since major systemic overhauls are expensive and time consuming, we put them on our roadmap for future eras. The “beta” label can mean a lot of different things in video games, but for us it means you should expect bugs and design iterations as we observe and iterate to make the game better.

Lastly, we’d like to give you a little more insight into us — the people making Blaseball. This game was made during a period of serious financial uncertainty for our studio. We were pitching other projects and made this on the side as a Hail Mary in case everything fell through. We’re overjoyed that the game has become this popular, but we’re not yet set up to handle the growth. We’re working really hard to change that.

There are four people working on Blaseball full-time and several helping out part-time. We’re funding Blaseball with our savings — despite the popularity the game isn’t profitable yet, so we’re balancing the need to keep it going with the need to find sustainability quickly. We have tons of ideas for how to do just that, but these things take time and resources.

If you’re enjoying Blaseball and want to positively affect it in the future — please consider donating to our Patreon. Thank you for your support. We are all love Blaseball.
